Few weeks before, we were riding on Krk, and then I sad that this was the best route you can find on island Krk, now after last ride my recent opinion need serious revision. This ride is better than any route we rode here in term of technical descents, panoramic views and endless singletracks. We avoided ascent on asphalt road because I came a little bit later from Zagreb and I was visiting friends with my girlfriend for over a weekend, so I wanted to save up some time. Matko left his car in Baška, and I drove us and our bikes on Treskavac and left my car on parking lot. From there we continued on trail that leads to Obzova, Zminj, Veliki Hlam, Ljubimer and Bag. This time I wont describe path because it is similar to previous rides on Krk, you can look there for instructions.
The main difference from last ride from Bratinac is that this time on crossing for Bratinac and Ljubimer we went right following path that goes along old stone wall. We followd path on the left side of wall and even though it is technical demanding you can pedal almost all the way, depending on your physical condition and technical abilities.
After reaching Ljubimer peak trail leads forward to peak Bag, which we also decided to visit, and from there we descended with trail that leads to Baška. At the beginnig surface of this steep trail is on loose rocks with tight switchbacks. There are few drops that you can roll, but they are pretty high so they can be intimidating. For ascent you can choose three different ways. You can shuttle with cars, but you need 2 cars, you can choose ascent over east ridge that goes on Moon plateau or you can go along asphalt road. Way over Moon plateau is thoughest. I advise to choose ascent part with taking into account weather (can be to hot during summer days).
Note:
During summer can be very hot, so the ride is not recommended during hot days. Even though this route is only 20 km long, you can expect that it will last from 3-6 hours, depends on your form. Before going on the ride check wind activity, could be very windy. If you choose to go during summer, I advise to go very early. and use lot of suncream. Shins for legs and arms are advised on this trail. Part of our track is beyond trails made by hikers because we chose to ride that way if we assumed that it was more suitable for bike. One of the many advantages is that you can choose where to ride and you don’t have to strictly follow the path as long as you know where to go.
