Another great ride to for opening bike season. This was first real ride for my Santa Cruz Bronson and first time that Ivan was riding his eMTB on this kind of exploring ride. Nanos is high karst ridge in the western part of province of Notranjska which separates northern part of Slovenia with Primorje. It is 12 km long and 6 km wide plateu with a cut off steep edge. For mountaineers, the most interesting is the southern peak of Pleš (1262 m), where a TV transmitter is located under the very top, and a little further down is the “Vojkova koča” mountain lodge, named after the national hero Janko Premrl – Vojko. This peak is also our destination. Mountain lodge was under reconstruction so we couldn’t go inside, but hosts made available food and drinks in outside tent.

Grožnjan is small Istrian town located on the hill above Mirna river valley. During summer months Grožnjan streets and squares are transformed into shelter for painters, musicians, sculptors and many other artists. Few years ago I visited Grožnjan for the first time when me and my girlfriend were riding famous Parenzana trail (old railway path which is now transformed into macadam road for MTB). Even though Parenzana trail goes through many famous places in Istria I liked Grožnjan the most. It has the best vibe and amazing view which you can enjoy while relaxing in local coffee shops.

Gorizia – Local trails

Day before, we shuttled on Ajdovščina and Sveta Gora and I managed to fall on my first ride on descent on Sveta Gora trail, so after the fall I became stiff and all the time I rode with brake in my head. Luckily I wasn’t injured, but I couldn’t relax anymore that weekend… After Ajdovščina and Sveta Gora, next day we visited small Italian town on border between Slovenia and Italy.
Near Gorizia there is small hill 241 meter high. Even though elevation is not so high, it offers nice views on nearby mountains in Italy and Slovenia.
