I had a free weekend so I decided to visit Ston, and the next day to visit Omiš. Ston is a little medieval town whose history reaches back in early 14th century and has longest stone wall in Europe (5,5 km), with his narrow quiet streets, and buildings with ancient culture. Even today you can see plants of the oldest active salt-works in the world. In his history, town Ston was part of Republic of Ragusa, and famous Walls of Ston where built to protect borders of this maritime republic.

Most of my route is on unpaved road. I started riding from the center of town Ston to the hill near Ponikve, on the top there are 16 windmills which supply 23 000 households, and were built in 2012. I have always watched such windmills from a far, and now when I’ve seen them close up, I could feel accumulated energy from the wind. And I can say for sure, they are a lot of bigger when you approach them.

While riding bike through Pelješac vineyards, you can taste the wine, as you are drinking famous Dingač or Pošip. Unlike most of people who will probably visit this region in summer I had a chance to ride this route in early spring, so on higher elevations I caught some snow.

Unfortunately, I was not able to swim due to cold weather and strong wind but nevertheless I enjoyed in view while I rode along the sea. These kind of days, and these kind of rides are perfect for enjoying the nature, breathing fresh air, relaxing and are good preparation for all mountain rides in near future.
