For a weekend I camped with my family in our new tent which we bought for new camping adventures. We stayed in camp Slatina near Martinšćica. I haven’t had any gpx prepared for ride, so night before I looked on map for some local trails hoping to come out with something interesting. My plan was to visit Lubenice from Martinšćica and then descent back, trying to collect as biggest possible percentage of trails avoiding asphalt road as much as possible.

I don’t even count how many times I visited Grobnik Alps, but this time we wanted to explore trails on our own. Untill now, every time we visited this place we followed someone elses gpx, this time we decided to create our own route and hope for the best. We parked our car in Dražice on free parking lot near main square. We always park here because after ride we eat in local restaurant. From here we started our ride and followed paved road to Soboli to meet with Matko from BK Rodeo. I’ve met him the day before when we rode together on Učka mountain. From there we connected to gravel road that begins near Grobnik race track. From there, path is pretty straight forward. Even though gravel road is on loose surface, pretty steep and very tiring, we prefer this ascent than asphalt road, but if you like you can choose ascent on paved road.

I’ve got this gpx file of Balvanida trail from a my friend Goran. He told me that I’ ll like this trail, but not because of descent. At first, I didn’t understand him, but later, everything was clear.
I parked my car above hotel Aurora. There is a parking lot and I found some space. From there I followed road that leads to start of DH Lošinj cup race. On the way I found some hiking trail that is 95% rideable and more fun than road. Even though it was very hot summer day, the route is short, and not too physically demanding. Ascent part goes on the ridge of the island. After about 6.5 kilometers I arrived on start of Balvanida trail. It is classical karst trail, not too steep. The rocks however are not loose so riding is safer than usual and you can gain speed very easily even though the trail is almoust flat. (watch out on hikers, specially during summer season, so drive carefully)
