This is a story about backup plan for weekend that become one of the best bike weekends. Initial plan was to ride in Italy near Bovec to repeat ride on Rezijanski Skutnik, which was one of mine favorites rides and the next day to bike on Dobrenjščica, but due to bad weather we decided to visit Mežica. Few days before Ivan and I spent a lot of time drawing gpx tracks and collecting information about local trails (there isn’t so much information). We stayed in bikeSki b&b which turned out as a great place. Hosts Primož & Nataša are very friendly. Rooms are clean and tidy, and every morning Nataša prepared breakfast for us which kept us alive and full of energy on ascents.

Primož didn’t have e-mtb so we didn’t ask him for guiding, but regardless he gave us some directions which ascents to ride, pinpoint which trails for up or down are maybe better from what we drawn, and gave us instructions where are good sightseeing places. As I understood, Primož has shuttle service. All in all cost-benefit ratio of apartment is great and it exceeded our expectations with its concept and casual style. After morning and breakfast we started our ride from apartment and first rode for Pikov vrh and famous ridgeline trails. This is first of four ascents (and descents) that day. All in all we managed to collect 2280 vertical meters of ascent.

After ridgeline trail from Mežica we descended to Črna na Koroškem place. There we chill a little bit in local bar and went for another trail that also goes mostly on the ridge. We decided to go like this because this two uphills were enough for our batterys.

After second descent we came back to Črna na Koroškem and we continued to Mežica to our apartments. There we recharged bike batteries, ate some sandwiches and recuperated in pool (yes they also have pool there).  Cold water from the pool came great for our muscles so we were ready for another portion of the trails.
Now we went for trails called “Lost Goat” , ” A Drag” and “Kanal”. Lost Goat turned out to be little bit demanding because it was very wet and slippery which was very strange because it wasn’t raining and everything elsewhere was dry. A drag had some interesting jumps that seemed doable, but we were now pretty tired and didn’t want to risk injuries.

And on the last we connected on Kanal trail which turned out as great trail for closing the day with some steep bearms, and fast and flowy sections through canal (how the trail got its name). With e bike our route is doable in one day, with normal bike it could be doable, but you will be very  tired, so it would be better to chop this in two days. As I realised, Mežica is great region with a lot of beautiful trails. There is also famous Petzen, Jamnica trails and also Partizanka trail which we rode the day before. Primož told us that there are another trails nearby which we didn’t rode, but we intentionally left the unridden so we can come back another time. Then we will probably invite Primož to guide us…

Next day, little bit tired but full of positive energy we went for Preddvor to ride another undiscovered trails. I really could live in Slovenia ;).
