This is a story about backup plan for weekend that become one of the best bike weekends. Initial plan was to ride in Italy near Bovec to repeat ride on Rezijanski Skutnik, which was one of mine favorites rides and the next day to bike on Dobrenjščica, but due to bad weather we decided to visit Mežica. Few days before Ivan and I spent a lot of time drawing gpx tracks and collecting information about local trails (there isn’t so much information). We stayed in bikeSki b&b which turned out as a great place. Hosts Primož & Nataša are very friendly. Rooms are clean and tidy, and every morning Nataša prepared breakfast for us which kept us alive and full of energy on ascents.

Primož didn’t have e-mtb so we didn’t ask him for guiding, but regardless he gave us some directions which ascents to ride, pinpoint which trails for up or down are maybe better from what we drawn, and gave us instructions where are good sightseeing places. As I understood, Primož has shuttle service. All in all cost-benefit ratio of apartment is great and it exceeded our expectations with its concept and casual style. After morning and breakfast we started our ride from apartment and first rode for Pikov vrh and famous ridgeline trails. This is first of four ascents (and descents) that day. All in all we managed to collect 2280 vertical meters of ascent.

I’ve heard about this trail from a lot of people and this is probably one of the most famous trails in Slovenia. Since we were on our way to Mežica to ride also very famous ridgeline trails we planned to make one stop in Slovenj Gradec to visit Partyzanka. And with partyzanka started one of the best bike weekends. We parked our car at the end of the trail (which is our preferable parking spot on any mtb ride), and from there started our ascent. Uphill is pretty much straightforward and first 10 km is on paved road, after that we turned left on gravel road for about 3 km until we reached hut (which didn’ work).

When we decided to go in Preddvor to ride local trails, I didn’t expect that second trail would be one of the best trails I have ever ridden. I had gpx track for second trail and from the video I knew that this trail would be interesting, but ascent and descent combined had about 700 meters of elevation gain and about 15 km lenght. It was to little to ride and to travel from Zagreb, so I added one ascent and descent which I drew blindly not knowing the terrain.  At the end we got about 1800 elevetion gain and about 12 km of bike trails. First part is on paved road, later we connect to gravel road which is very very steep almost all the time. Luckily we were on e-bikes so it was easier for us. At 7th kilometer we connected to the trail that leads to both descents. First part of that trail wich leads to intersection to the second descent is rideable with electric bike, but after that intersection becomes even more steep, so we had to push our bikes.
