Due to Korona lockdown between Croatia and Slovenia, I accumulated many plans for our MTB trips in Slovenia, so when borders opened we chose to ride on Dovška Rožca mountain and saddle  Mlinca. It is very nice and short tour which starts in the exactly the same place as tour that  Gojsi and I rode last year Golica.  I alredy knew that we should expect wonderful trails and views because trails engraved on this part of Slovenian mountains cannot be disappointing.

Matajur is a 1642 meter high mountain in Julian Alps on the border of Italy and Slovenia. It is located between Soča Valley and Italian mountain region known as Venetian Slovenia, with views over Adriatic Sea. I rode this route few years ago,  with the difference that I started in Livek (Slovenia), this time I made a little change so we started in Savogna (Italy) because it is better to finish a ride with descent than on paved ascent.  At Savogna, near the parking spot, there is a well. Even though the sign at well says “non potabile” we drank that water :). After Livek, begins nice views on surrounding landscapes.

When I first got gpx file from  one of the members from dropbike forum, I knew what to expect. 2200 meters of elevation gain in less than 35 kilometers, this will be one though ride, and first few kilometers on steep paved ascent are “easy” introduction. After this 5 km on paved road we left Javorniški Rovt and reached the part of unpaved road.  4.5 kilometers from Javorniški Rovt village we entered into pasture Pusti Rovt filled with herd of cows and for the first time on this ride experienced Alps atmosphere (one of the many to come).
