Few years before I heard about interesting trail named 888 by its nearby peak Sveti Peter 888 meters high. We parked our car in Soteska near technical museum. Soteska is a settlement on the left bank of the Krka River in the Municipality of Dolenjske Toplice in Slovenia. The area is part of the historical region of Lower Carniola.
Even though we mainly came for trail 888, we decided to first climb on hill on the other side and ride two trails called Jarki and ob pruhu. Ascent to Jarki (5,8 km long) and ob pruhu is actually the same macadam road, you can easily decide during ascent if you have enough strenght to ride both of the trails because you will first encounter to trail ob pruhu, Jarki trail is at the top of the hill. Jarki trail and ob pruhu are both flow trails with kickers, drops, gap jumps and berms. Gaps are pretty big for blue trail and a real challenge for me because I’m not used to jumping, because I mostly ride on natural trails so some features were real challenge for me.
After we finished Jarki trail we again ascended with the same macadam, but this time we only had to climb for 1 km to reach beginning of the ob pruhu. Even though ascent is short, trail ob pruhu is very well constructed and traced so not so high elevation is used very well.
After we finished with both of these trails, we quickly refreshed by our car and continued on another hill for main prize (trail 888). Uphill is on unpaved road 8,6 km long and descent on 888 trail is 4 km long. This trail is something I expected and hoped for. Combination of rocks and dirt with drops, kickers, gap jumps, berms and technical sections. Few gap jumps were very big and we decided it was smarter not to ride them :). All in all, very good trails in this small settlement. Crew that builds and maintains this trails does amazing job and I am certain I will visit this place very soon.
