If you are visiting Zagreb and have a whole day for MTB experience, this route is very good trip for visiting northern and south side of Medvednica. For ascent we used popular Leustek trail (There is a tacit agreement between hikers and mountain bikers not to ride downhill this path, so it is very important for everyone who read this text to follow this simple unwritten rule.) On the intesection Leustek trail and macadam road, we went right on macadam road that leads on trails named 21 A, 21 and 20 which goes through meadow Danjka. First ascent path ends at hut Hunjka, and from there we descended by trail called Zagorje Enduro trail.

Zagorje Enduro trail

After about 5,5 km we connected to paved road that connects Zagorje with peak of Medvednica, but we continued in opposite direction to Pila, and from there turned right from Strmec Stubički on some singletrack road that leads to Stubičke Toplice and Donja Stubica town.

Donja Stubica were unusually crowded at the time due to celebration and reconstruction of old battle that Croatian villagers fought centuries ago.  After reaching Donja Stubica, we all agreed that it is too crowded, so we decided to go back to Medvednica with steep macadam that leads exactly to our next destination, hut Gorčica (my favorite hut on Medvednica mountain with best pancakes and best hosts). I haven’t ate for the whole day,  so I was completely exhausted.

Tochkica & Tonchek

After refreshing at Gorščica hut, we continued to new trails called Tonchek & Tochkica (Tonček i Točkica). Trails are fast and mostly flow with some short rock sections and were made by friends from the east side of Zagreb who also enjoy riding. Not that they build those great trails they also maintain exiting trails. Many thanks to that sort of people who spend their time to make possible ride for rest of us.  There are some kickers on T&T but we managed to miss them because we didn’t know trails so good, but they are doable, even by mine standards, and I’m not so into jumping.

All in all, T&T are great trails and you should probably visit them if you find yourself nearby. You can go and ride specially T&T and use uphill on Bidrovecki or Vidovecki gravel road.
